Navigating Neurodiversity with The Autism Mums Podcast
Victoria Bennion and Natalie Tealdi (United Kingdom)

Victoria Bennion and Natalie Tealdi, two sisters raising autistic children, recently launched The Autism Mums Podcast with the aim of supporting parents and carers navigating the challenges of raising autistic children.
The lived experiences of Victoria, Natalie and their guests offer valuable insight not just for fellow parents and carers, but also for coaches. Many of the podcast’s listeners are parents and carers trying to hold down jobs, navigate healthcare and education systems, whilst caring for their children, and you may be working with them.
The Autism Mums Podcast offers unfiltered insight into what these clients are carrying with them when they arrive in your space.
“We know first-hand how isolating and overwhelming it can feel as a parent or carer of an autistic child, and how vital it is to have support,” says Victoria. “We want to build a community where people can come for connection, understanding, and practical insights that make a difference in daily life.”
“Our podcast addresses the real-life challenges and triumphs that families experience, helping to raise awareness and promote understanding within the community,” says Natalie.
Each episode of The Autism Mums Podcast offers a mix of parent-to-parent chats, practical strategies, reflections, and expert interviews. Whether someone’s celebrating a win, managing a meltdown, or just trying to make it through the day, they’ll find something that resonates.
Across the episodes, you’ll hear stories and insights that touch on:
The Emotional Load of Advocacy
One of the key themes explored in the podcast is advocacy – the cognitive and emotional load of navigating healthcare, education, and systemic barriers. Whitney Price, a guest on the show and founder of Unpuzzled Parents Connect, says, “Advocacy for our children’s needs becomes a full-time job. You’re constantly fighting for support, and that takes a toll on your mental health.”
Carl Draper, another guest, parent-carer and trainee mental health nurse, shared his experience, stating, “Nothing impacts a child more than the behaviour of those around them. As parents, we have to be their strongest advocates.”
The Quiet Grief
The podcast delves into the “quiet grief” that many parents feel when a child’s journey diverges from the expected path. Whitney highlights, “The grief doesn’t just stop after diagnosis. It can pop up years later.”
Overwhelm From Navigating Complex Systems
The Autism Mums Podcast covers the overwhelm of navigating waiting lists, bureaucracy, and intense schedules all while caring for your children. Victoria shares, “Many of us are juggling multiple appointments and therapies. It can feel like a never-ending battle.” Carl adds, “As parents, we often go without sleep, we’re constantly on alert, trying to manage everything.”
Reframing Success and Celebrating Small Wins
The podcast highlights how parents often redefine what progress and success look like for their neurodivergent children. Whitney states, “We’ve learned to celebrate small wins and redefine what success means for our families.”
The Healing Power of Connection
Victoria and Natalie know first-hand the importance of building a supportive network. Whitney says, “No one should feel alone on this journey. Together, we can support each other.” Carl echoes this, stating, “We are all in the same storm, but we’re not in the same boat. Finding community is essential.”
