5 Ways to Practice Creativity and Innovation in Your Business

Anne Bachrach (USA)

Creativity and innovation can take your business to new heights, as long as you’re practicing it within your organisation.

This practice can result in new ideas, new products, or new solutions to your clients’ needs. It can give your company a serious boost. Even if your company is already successful, there may be new ways to impact your business with innovation.

Innovation can help you reduce costs, be more competitive, and grow into areas or even markets you may not have thought to penetrate.

Let’s explore six ways to practice creativity and innovation in your business, so you can take it to the next level.

  1. Empower Your Team

Innovation works best when it’s approached from multiple perspectives. The way that you think is unique to how the members of your team think, and you’ll have the best chance of improving the creativity within your business if you empower your team to come up with innovative ideas.

One way to do this is to provide the space for innovation. This could look like allotting a certain amount of time each month for team members to brainstorm new ideas and products, or to work together to come up with a pitch deck for a new initiative.

Another way to empower your team is to provide the resources they need to promote innovation. This could be ongoing learning through online courses or other training materials, or providing funding for new software or platforms that can help create more efficient processes within your organisation.

  1. Stay Up to Date on Industry Trends

Innovation means expanding upon or staying ahead of the trends, so it’s important to stay on top of them. Reading industry news is a great way to stay in touch with what’s going on. An easy way to consume content regularly is to subscribe to newsletters, so you get the news straight to your inbox each day. Read as much as you can about your industry and market through industry publications, blogs, and influencers in your space.

If reading isn’t your preferred way to consume content, you can listen to podcasts, network with other industry professionals, or watch out for trends on social media. By watching out for trends, you can find patterns that can inform the innovative direction you take your company.

In order to disrupt an industry, you must understand it.

  1. Talk to Your Clients

You may have set out to build your business to solve a specific problem. But the only way to make sure you’re constantly innovating in your business is to talk to your clients regularly and understand their ever-changing needs.

For example, if you created a platform for travel, but people stopped travelling, you may have to pivot and figure out if your business can provide another solution instead. Perhaps you’ll find that your platform is perfectly set up for people to book places to work remotely instead of going on vacation. It’s the same structure, but a more innovative and relevant solution.
