3 Tips to Maximise Your ROI with a Business Coach

Lisa Zahiya (USA)

As an entrepreneur or business leader, you might find yourself at a crossroads, unsure of where to begin when it comes to taking your business to the next level.  In such moments, investing in a business coach is a strategic move that can yield remarkable returns. In my 12+ years as a business coach, I’ve had the privilege of working with countless entrepreneurs, witnessing firsthand what can happen when coach and client are aligned. The right coach will do three things simultaneously: inspire sweeping improvements across your company, lay the foundation for long-term success, and help you become the leader who can run the company successfully.

Why work with a business coach?

Working with a business coach provides you with the invaluable opportunity to invest in yourself and your business. They offer expert guidance that paves the way for transformation across the board, from getting crystal clear on your goals to honing in on new operational strategies. By working together, you can pinpoint what truly matters and set realistic, achievable milestones. This focus ensures that every step you take is aligned with your long-term vision, propelling your business forward with purpose.

While the idea of investing in a business coach can be daunting, the potential gains far outweigh the initial expense. The number one block for a business’s growth is the leader. A business coach acts as a crucial support system, providing the necessary guidance to keep you on track and committed to your goals. This accountability can be the difference between stagnation and growth, ensuring you take the right steps to take your company to new heights. Sometimes, it’s difficult to see the forest for the trees. A business coach offers an external, unbiased perspective, helping you identify blind spots and opportunities you may have overlooked. In turn, this fresh viewpoint can inspire innovative solutions and new ways of thinking that drive your business forward. Ultimately, these advantages lead to greater prosperity in every sense of the word, resulting in a sense of both personal and professional fulfillment.

How to work with a business coach

Now that we’ve covered the “why” of working with a business coach, let’s get into the “how.” While there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to working with a business coach, you can use these tips to maximise your chances of success:

  1. Find the perfect match: Hiring a business coach means bringing someone into the inner workings of your company, so you want to make sure you find someone whose values and working style align with your own. Reflect on what you need from a coach before you even start exploring options. For example, if you’re looking for help with strategic planning, you might seek a coach who specialises in long-term business strategy and offers comprehensive planning workshops. On the other hand, if you need support with crisis management, a coach with a background in crisis intervention would be much more helpful. When looking for the right fit, you’ll also want to know their general approach to coaching. For example, I take a holistic approach with my clients that considers their personal lives as well as their professional goals. But, some entrepreneurs may prefer to work with a coach who focuses only on the business side of things.
